The certainty of apprehension, not the severity of punishment, is more effective as a deterrent. So argues Daniel S. Nagin (pictured), one of the nation’s foremost scholars on deterrence and criminal justice policy, in his chapter on in the recently released Academy for Justice four-volume study, . Reviewing deterrence scholarship since the 1960s and five leading studies from the past two decades, Dr. Nagin concludes that evidence supporting a deterrent effect from "the certainty of punishment is far more convincing and consistent than for the severity of punishment." Moreover, he writes, "[t]he certainty of apprehension, and not the severity of the ensuing legal consequence, is the more effective deterrent." Dr. Nagin is the Teresa and H. John Heinz III University Professor of Public Policy and Statistics at Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy andpreviously chaired the Committee on Deterrence and the Death Penaltyfor theNational Research Council of the National Academies of Science (NAS). In that capacity, he served as co-editor of the 2012 National Academiesreport, . Nagin explains in his Academy for Justice chapterthatalthough "certainty must result in a distasteful consequence" for the punishment to bea deterrent, "[t]he consequences need not be draconian, just sufficiently costly, to deter the prohibited behavior." In making policy judgments about the justification for increasingly severesanctions, he says, "the deterrent return to increasing an already long sentence appears to be small, possibly zero." The 2012 NAS Committee found that "research to date on the effect of capital punishment on homicide is not informative about whether capital punishment decreases, increases, or has no effect on homicide rates" andrecommended that those deterrent studies "not be used to inform deliberations requiring judgments about the effect of the death penalty on homicide."A February 2015 studyby theBrennan Center for Justiceof the dramatic drop in crime in the U.S. in the 1990s and 2000sfound that the death penalty had no effect on the decline in crime .

The default location of Minio server configuration file is ~/.minio/config.json . The Redis configuration is located in the redis key under the notify top-level key. Create a configuration key-value pair here for your Redis instance. The key is a name for your Redis endpoint, and the value is a collection of key-value parameters described in the table below.

An example of Redis configuration is as follows:

After updating the configuration file, restart the Minio server to put the changes into effect. The server will print a line like SQS ARNs: arn:minio:sqs::1:redis at start-up if there were no errors.

Note that, you can add as many Redis server endpoint configurations as needed by providing an identifier (like "1" in the example above) for the Redis instance and an object of per-server configuration parameters.

We will now enable bucket event notifications on a bucket named images . Whenever a JPEG image is created/overwritten, a new key is added or an existing key is updated in the Redis hash configured above. When an existing object is deleted, the corresponding key is deleted from the Redis hash. Thus, the rows in the Redis hash, reflect the .jpg objects in the images bucket.

Start the redis-cli Redis client program to inspect the contents in Redis. Run the monitor Redis command. This prints each operation performed on Redis as it occurs.

In the previous terminal, you will now see the operation that Minio performs on Redis:

Here we see that Minio performed HSET on minio_events key.

In case, access format was used, then minio_events would be a list, and the Minio server would have performed an RPUSH to append to the list. A consumer of this list would ideally use BLPOP to remove list items from the left-end of the list.

    Install NATS from .

The default location of Minio server configuration file is ~/.minio/config.json . Update the NATS configuration block in config.json as follows:

Restart Minio server to reflect config changes. bucketevents is the subject used by NATS in this example.

Minio server also supports NATS Streaming mode that offers additional functionality like Message/event persistence , At-least-once-delivery , and Publisher rate limiting . To configure Minio server to send notifications to NATS Streaming server, update the Minio server configuration file as follows:

Read more about sections clusterID , clientID on NATS documentation . Section maxPubAcksInflight is explained .

We will enable bucket event notification to trigger whenever a JPEG image is uploaded or deleted from images bucket on myminio server. Here ARN value is arn:minio:sqs::1:nats . To understand more about ARN please follow AWS ARN documentation.

The Orthodox Church sees the celebration of the Eucharist as a continuation, rather than a reenactment, of the Last Supper , as Fr. John Matusiak (of the ) says: "The Liturgy is not so much a reenactment of the Mystical Supper or these events as it is a continuation of these events, which are beyond time and space. The Orthodox also see the Eucharistic Liturgy as a bloodless sacrifice, during which the bread and wine we offer to God become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through the descent and operation of the Holy Spirit, Who effects the change." This view is witnessed to by the prayers of the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom , when the priest says: "Accept, O God, our supplications, make us to be worthy to offer unto thee supplications and prayers and bloodless sacrifices for all thy people," and "Remembering this saving commandment and all those things which came to pass for us: the cross, the grave, the resurrection on the third day, the ascension into heaven, the sitting down at the right hand, the second and glorious coming again, Thine own of Thine own we offer unto Thee on behalf of all and for all," and "… Thou didst become man and didst take the name of our High Priest, and deliver unto us the priestly rite of this liturgical and bloodless sacrifice…"

The Sanskrit yajna ( yajña , modern Hindi pronunciation: yagya ) is often translated as "sacrifice" (also "offering, oblation", or more generically as "worship"). [14] It is especially used to describe the offering of (clarified butter), grains, spices, and wood into a fire along with the chanting of sacred mantras . An animal sacrifice in Arabic is called ḏabiḥa (ذَبِيْحَة) or Qurban (قُرْبَان) . The term may have roots from the Jewish term Korban ; in some places such as in Pakistan, qurbani is always used for Islamic animal sacrifice. In the Islamic context, an animal sacrifice referred to as ḏabiḥa (ذَبِيْحَة) meaning "sacrifice as a ritual" is offered only in Eid ul-Adha . The sacrificial animal may be a sheep, a goat, a camel, or a cow. The animal must be healthy and conscious. ..."Therefore to the Lord turn in Prayer and Sacrifice. " (Surat Al-Kawthar) Quran, 108.2 Qurban is an Islamic prescription for the affluent to share their good fortune with the needy in the community.
